What can I learn about myself through my dreams and how can I convey the dream experience through color, line, and surrealistic imagery?
In the first piece of my sustained investigation I started with a realistic painting of me lifting up sheets in bed, with ants crawling out from beneath them, conveying how in a place of comfort and relaxation, I still feel anxious and stressed. To convey a more dream-like quality, sustained investigation two was more surrealistic than before. I completely changed the color scheme that I originally intended for the piece and it created a more unnatural and surreal setting. I experimented further by incorporating realistic qualities into surrealistic images with monochromatic color in sustained investigation three. This instilled the dreamy mood and feeling of loss in the piece. However, the next few pieces involve realism but with the addition of unnatural scale and colors to make it more surrealistic, recreating what I felt in my real dreams. I finished off with a realistic portrait but with dramatic colors, lightning, and lines to intensify the mood and surrealistic style.
